Arson suspected in Vanderburgh County house fire - WECT, weather & sports Wilmington, NC

Victim identified in 'suspicious' Vanderburgh Co. house fire

One person is dead and three others are hurt after an overnight house fire in Vanderburgh County.

The fire started around 1:30 Friday morning on Wright Drive just off St. Joseph Avenue.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office says 54-year-old Thomas Neil Duncan was found dead inside the burning home. They say they have reason to believe that he might have started the fire.

Officials say three family members, two men and one woman, were taken to the hospital. No word on the extent of their injuries.

The German Township Fire Chief tells us there were no hydrants near the home on Wright Dr. so water had to be tankered in.  He says it took several hours to get the fire out and there was no chance of going in to do any type of rescue due to the intensity of the fire.

The Chief says several firefighters slipped and fell while battling the blaze because of all the ice, but he says none of them were hurt.

Authorities say the scene is being considered a crime scene and the fire is being treated as suspicious and likely to have been intentionally set

The investigation is ongoing.
