City of Charleston Police say they uncovered an umbrella, after responding to reports of a suspicious package Downtown on King Street.
According to officers, a woman returned to her Vanderhorst Street apartment around 11pm Thursday when she discovered the package.
Police say she began to open it, when she noticed a strange odor.
According to officers, the woman put the package in the trunk of her car, then searched for the nearest police officer.
Authorities say she found an officer in front of Gilroy's Pizza on King Street.
Fire, hazmat, EMS, and the bomb squad were called to the scene.
According to Charleston Police, the bomb squad deployed a robot to detect possible suspicious materials in the package, but the results came back negative.
No one was evacuated in the area, though St. Philip Street, George Street, and Meeting Street were shut down by Charleston police while authorities investigated.
