Bowers honored by USGA

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT0 – As a USGA golf rules official, golf has let Wilmington's Donnie Bowers travel the country.

Bowers, who is veteran of more than USGA national championships, is being honored Saturday at Pinehurst for his work.

Bowers is one of the recipients of the 2014 Ike Grainger award. The honor recognizes volunteer who have given 25 years of service to the Association.

Grainger, who was a Wilmington native was the first president of the USGA from 1954-55. He also helped come up with the first uniform code of Rules with the R&A.
