WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Four athletes from Wilmington will be inducted into the 2014 Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame this spring.

The board of directors announced their choices Wednesday morning. NASCAR great Ricky Benton, former golf pro Bob Boyd, NFL star Alge Crumpler and Calvin Lane, who is credited with building the UNCW soccer team from 1971-85, are among those to be honored during the induction ceremony.

The annual banquet will take place Sunday, May 4 at the Burney Center on the campus of UNCW. The reception and silent auction will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony and dinner at 6:30 p.m.

The annual golf tournament will be held the day before, Saturday, May 3.

The Greater Wilmington Hall of Fame was created in 2005 to honor those who have brought recognition to the Wilmington area themselves, by their excellence in the sports world.
