WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A robbery victim managed to fight off two armed suspects and wrestle away a handgun before sending the accused robbers running to the woods.

The incident started late Tuesday night when the victim answered the door at his girlfriend's home off Shirley Road.

Two black males pulled a gun and pointed it at the victim's head. After a short scuffle, the victim managed to wrestle away the gun. The suspects then ran into the woods.

Wilmington Police responded to the scene and used a K9 to track the suspects to the Love Grove area but lost the trail after that.

Officers also ran the serial number on the handgun and discovered it was stolen.

While officers were clearing the scene, a vehicle drove up and the female driver began talking to the officers. That's when police noticed Kamal Kennedy and Brian Williams in the backseat.

The victim ID'd the two men as the suspects and the pair was arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery and possession of a stolen firearm.

Kennedy and Williams are both being held in the New Hanover County Jail under a $200,000 secured bond.
