SUNSET BEACH, NC (WECT) – According to the town administrator of Sunset Beach, officials are advising drivers to stay off the bridge into town because of an accident.
According to Sunset Beach Fire Chief Kevin Dempsey, nobody was injured in the accident. Due to the extremely slick road conditions, the driver lost control causing the car to slide off the road near the base of the bridge.
Town administrator Susan Parker tells us a vehicle went off the road and into a marsh just before 7:30 Tuesday evening. Emergency officials themselves were having some difficulty getting to the location because of the hazardous winter driving conditions.
The area has been treated by NC DOT since the accident, but is still very slippery. The bridge remains open, but motorists are being asked to not drive on it.
