WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - With several inches of snow and ice on the ground, school was cancelled Wednesday. Many kids in the area were left to find something to do.
Hundreds of children went back to school, but not for class. We started our journey early Wednesday morning, driving through the icy roads, in search of the best snow day activities. It didn't take us long to find what many call "the number one sledding spot in town."
Hundreds of sled riders of all shapes, sizes, and ages raced down the icy hills of Forest Hills Elementary School in Wilmington.
Sarah Tetterton celebrated the snow along with her 13th birthday.
"I really wanted it to snow, I really really wanted it to snow and it did," screamed Tetterton. "I was like, 'Oh My God it's snowing!'"
Jenni Harris and her son, Andy, shared a thrill ride on their family sled – bringing back some childhood memories for Jenni.
Most schools will remain closed on Thursday due to the ice and snow still on the roads. For a complete list of all closures and delays, click here.
