BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - U.S. Senator Kay Hagan announced Wednesday that $1 million in federal funding for Brunswick Electric Membership Cooperative will go to help Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport, according to a news release.
According to officials, Brunswick Electric Membership Cooperative will receive a $700,000 loan and a $300,000 grant to help the hospital purchase a new office building. The money will also help to provide more services to local residents.
"I'm pleased that residents of Southport and the greater Brunswick County community will benefit from Dosher Memorial Hospital's expanded services as a result of this funding," Hagan said. "I'm committed to ensuring that residents in every community in our state have access to quality medical services."
Officials also say the project is expected to allow the hospital to reduce operating costs.
