Two injured in separate shootings, both expected to be okay

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Two people were injured in separate shooting incidents early Wednesday morning.

According to Sgt. Jerry Brewer with the New Hanover County Sheriff's office, a man was walking to his car around midnight near Fawn Street, off of Rockhill Road near the John Jay Burney Jr. Freeway, when he was shot by someone in a passing car.

Brewer said the man was taken to the hospital to be treated, but is expected to be okay.  According to the incident report, the victim was 22-year-old Steven Shawn Grady.  Deputies are still searching for a suspect.

Less than two hours later, another drive-by shooting happened on North 30th Street, near Princess Place Drive, in the Creekwood Community, according to Lt. Blanton with the Wilmington Police Department.

Police found shell casings in the area and believes someone shot into a residence and vehicle.

According to Blanton, an 18-year-old woman was injured while she was sleeping on a couch inside the home that was shot. It is unclear if she was grazed by a bullet or was hit by glass that had ricocheted in the shooting.

The teen was taken to the hospital and is also expected to be okay.

A witness said they saw a dark colored SUV leave the area shortly after the shooting.

Officials are trying to gather more evidence at this time. It is not known whether the two early morning shootings were related.
