Bust finds drugs, gambling and wanted man in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Investigators found drugs, gambling and a wanted man during a bust in the city of Wilmington Thursday night.

SWAT Team members searched a building behind 4133 Princess Place Drive, which has been identified as a meeting spot for gang members.

Jamal Burton, of Wilmington, is charged with operating the location for drug distribution, illegal gambling and selling alcohol without a permit, according to Wilmington Police.

Burton, who had eluded police for more than a year on outstanding warrants, is behind bars on a $162,000 bond. He's charged with the following:

 

  • Possession with intent to manufacture, sell, distribute heroin
  • Maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substance
  • Gambling
  • Reckless driving
  • Speeding to elude arrest
  • Resisting and delay
  • Cyberstalking
  • Multiple counts of failure to appear

 

WPD's Narcotics Investigations Unit and ALE worked together on the bust with help from New Hanover County SWAT Team.
