KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Residents in Kure Beach say they are upset because Mayor Dean Lambeth has changed the schedule of the meeting agenda. They say this is an attempt to limit their voice at the upcoming town council meeting.
While the public comments section typically leads the Kure Beach Town Council Meeting, the comments section has been moved to the end of the meeting.
Various ocean protection groups plan to protest a discussion of seismic testing at the town council meeting, they say this is why the mayor has changed the scheduling of the public comments.
"I think it's a way he might be trying to limit the voice of the people," says President of the Surfrider Foundation Ethan Crouch.
Mayor Lambeth responded to this statement by saying he did not change the agenda schedule for any reason other than to discuss important council items at the beginning of the meeting. He says the public can voice their opinion at the end of the meeting for as much time as it takes.
