BURGAW, NC (WECT) - The Burgaw community came together this weekend to honor a woman who gave more than four decades of service to the Pender Memorial Hospital.
Esther Lee Simpson Walker retired after 46 years of service. Saturday, a retirement ceremony took place for her in Burgaw.
According to friends and family, Esther joined the hospital staff in November of 1969. During her 46 years, she worked in the Labor and Delivery Department (late 60s and early 70s), Emergency Room Department and Intensive Care Unit.
During the ceremony, there was a video presentation, tribute and comments from Ruth Glaser, the President of Pender Memorial Hospital and Pender Commissioner Jimmy Tate.
