Pipes have been bursting all over Wilmington due to cold weather.
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Pipes have been bursting all over Wilmington due to cold weather.
Businesses at one shopping center in Monkey Junction were temporarily shut down Saturday after multiple pipes burst.
Bradley Evans, an employee at Chop's Deli, said that he and his coworkers were working inside the building when they heard air pops outside. The pipe bursts set off multiple sprinklers in the building.
"They didn't get down here in time, and it popped off two of them right in front of our doors. It started coming down, the fire alarm went off, we had to evacuate the building," explained Evans.
New Hanover County Fire and Rescue crews responded to the incident and attempted to halt the water flow.
Evans said Chop's Deli, Sweet Frog and El Cerro Grande were all temporarily shut down due to the pipe bursts.
PIPE BURSTS IN RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS
Residents of the Rivers Edge apartment complex said they once again were faced with water damage after pipes burst in their buildings. A few weeks ago the same thing happened. Saturday, residents said that 14 units were facing water damage after pipe bursts.
New Hanover County dispatchers said they had been getting calls related to pipe bursts throughout Saturday.
