NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - New Hanover County Commissioner Tom Wolfe says he won't run for a full term on the Board of Commissioners when his seat comes up for election this year.

Wolfe said he's not running for personal reasons.

"To commit to another full four years to serve the county and its citizens is not a commitment I felt I could make at this time. I have really enjoyed my tenure to date and will continue to put every ounce of effort I can into my full time job as County Commissioner," Tom Wolfe said in an emailed release late Friday.

Wolfe was appointed in 2013 to replace former commissioner Rick Catlin, who had won a seat in the NC General Assembly.

Wolfe said he was encouraged to run for the seat, but wanted to get word out now that he wasn't running so other Republicans can get in the election.

The filing period begins in February.

Fellow Commissioners Woody White and Jonathan Barfield have both announced intentions to run for the open seat in North Carolina's 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
