BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The cost to Brunswick County to continue providing the same level of health care coverage in the fiscal year is expected to increase 25 percent, or $2.5 million.
According to officials, about $300,000 of the increase is attributable to healthcare reform and an additional $850,000 is due to new procedures surrounding the county's ability to obtain reinsurance for catastrophic claims.
Staff members are gathering information about potential options and ways to offset cost increases.
There will be a workshop Monday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. in the Commissioners' chambers in the Sandifer building to discuss these ideas.
