NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office K9 unit will soon be wearing new life-saving body armor.
Thanks to the efforts of Vested Interest in K9s, Inc and Paws and Claws Animal Hospital, the unit will receive seven additional bullet and stab protective vests.
The animal hospital began fund raising efforts in mid-November. According to the sheriff's office, four vests were donated through the event and an anonymous donation was made to the charity for the gift of three more vests.
The ultimate goal is to outfit the K9s from New Hanover, Wilmington and Brunswick County.
