WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers say the victim of an assault early Sunday morning claims the suspect said he was "mad and needed to punch someone."
According to Linda Rawley with the Wilmington Police Department, officers were called to respond to reports of gunfire in the area of Third and Dock Streets just after 3:15 a.m.
When they arrived, officers found a person lying in the road at 299. He had been punched in the face and knocked unconscious.
The suspects approached the victim's friend in an aggressive manner, so the friend fired two shots in the air, scaring the suspects away.
According to Rawley, it appears the suspects could have been Marines, though that has not yet been confirmed.
