First Alert Weather: frigid temperatures set to stay for several days

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A strong cold front will bring rapidly changing weather conditions late Tuesday and Tuesday night. Post-front, an extended period of cold weather is likely from Wednesday into the early parts of the weekend.

LATE TUESDAY NIGHT: Clouds will gradually clear, but frigid temperatures (20s) and wind chill values (10s) will move in with continued brisk northwest winds (20mph+). A few icy patches are possible, especially north of Wilmington.

WEDNESDAY: Despite sunshine, expect very cold conditions. Highs will only likely be in the low and mid 30s and wind chill values will spend most of the day in the 10s and 20s. This cold will rival that felt around January 7.

EXTENDED FORECAST TRENDS: Below-average temperatures and low precipitation chances will remain likely for the remainder of the week and the weekend. Friday looks particularly cold with highs only likely in the 30s again.
