One person has been arrested after a car crashed into the Youth Academy in Clarksville Friday.
Police say 27-year-old Thomas Sexton is facing a charge of leaving the scene of an accident.
Around 11 p.m. Friday, the academy director was in an office preparing to close for the night when the unthinkable happened. A truck came crashing through the front entrance.
"All of the glass is broken," said owner Stephani Staats said. "It all flew into the wall," she added.
The director had a child with her, and they barely made out in time.
"She was in the office, saw the lights coming from the window and was able to jump into one of the rooms as he crashed in," Staats said.
The driver drove about halfway through the building, crashing through the front offices, the bathroom and into the kitchen. The piping and electric system were all destroyed.
Police say the driver may have been drunk.
"It angers me that someone could be so selfish," Staats said. "It would have been so easy for that person to call a cab. Call a friend. There's no reason to be drinking and driving," she added.
Clarksville Police say a man who was at the scene was arrested for public intoxication. One of the owners recorded cell phone video of the man being put into handcuffs before being taken away in an ambulance. Police say he denies being in the vehicle at the time of the crash. If you have any information, you are asked to call Clarksville Police.
Building one of the Youth Academy will be closed for the next week. The staff will continue to care for children at a different facility until repairs are complete.
