NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT)- Reenactors commemorated the Battle of Fort Fisher with a special event Saturday.
Stations were set up at the reenactment to show people what life would have really been like in the Civil War era.
This year a lot of the historians focused on medical treatment.
The reenactors even fired cannons modeled after the ones used in the actual battle.
Curt Cole, a civil war reenactor, said he likes bringing history to life for the public.
"People see it firsthand instead of getting it straight from the history book. It kind of brings a little bit more color to it, a little more realism. We just think it's a good thing. It keeps things alive," Cole explained.
