The man who called 911 after a kidnapped baby girl on a roadside in Berkeley County said Thursday the people who found the infant at first thought she was a teddy bear.
The four month old was taken Tuesday during a home invasion in Holly Hill, according to Orangeburg County deputies.
The baby was discovered at the intersection of Highways 176 and 311 by people who had just left a funeral less than a mile away.
The man who made the 911 call asked to hide his identity because the kidnappers are still on the run.
"It made me want to cry, I'll tell you the truth, every time I think about it now," he said.
"Who put the baby right beside the road? That was wrong, that was really wrong."
The caller said one of the church members called him with the stunning news.
"He called me back said there's a baby on the side of the road. I said what?" He thought it was a teddy bear, a teddy bear all the time till he got over there. He took a chance and picked it up and it was okay."
The folks who found the infant also had no idea she had been kidnapped .
"I felt for the baby because the baby ain't harming nobody. Why would somebody put her down there on the ground like that," the 911 caller said. "I called her a little angel."
She's a baby girl whose life was saved by some folks who happened to be in the right place at the right time.
