WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Comic books are getting new life in a show running in downtown Wilmington.

Gallery takes place at Arkham Asylum and features five villains famous from the Batman series:  Dr. Ed Nigma, Dr. Jonathan Crane, Pamela Isley, Harvey Dent and the Joker.

They're the only ones left after the asylum is evacuated during a hurricane. Now they have to figure out how to survive.

"It's definitely a darker comedy," said director Caleb Ward. "There are moments where it's definitely sheer terror. I've seen the show close to 50 times now, and there are still moments where my heart starts pounding. It's an exciting show. It's funny in moments where it should be funny, and it's scary as hell when it should be scary."

And you don't have to be an avid comic book reader to enjoy the show.

"The comic book fans are going to notice little things," said Ward. "But honestly, if you don't know anything about Batman, as long as you just know some of the villains, you're going to enjoy it. There's really something for everybody in the show."
