CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - Leaders in Carolina Beach have approved a slight change in the rules when it comes to allowing dogs on the beach sand.
The timeline for when your four-legged friend cannot be on the beach will last from April 1 - September 30, which falls in line with the same calendar used for dog access in Kure Beach.
Council members asked that staff clarify in the ordinance which animals are allowed on the beach during the off-season before it goes into effect. However, town leaders expect it to be complete before the busy tourist season.
One person spoke during the public comment period of the discussion, saying that the town should focus more on enforcing the rules that are already on the books.
In 2013, Carolina Beach Police issued 13 citations for dogs on the beach.
