CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – The Town of Carolina Beach will use old Christmas trees to form dune stabilization on the ocean front.

According to town officials, 50 trees have been collected to use for the natural sand fencing to promote dune growth and establishment.

Officials said this program will save the town from having to pay disposal fees at the landfill and the cost for new sand fencing.

The recycled trees will form dunes at the following locations:

  • Sea Gull Lane
  • Sand Piper lane
  • Sea Horse Land
  • Scotch Bonnet Lane

Volunteers are needed for the tree planting, which will take place Jan. 25 at 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are asked to gather at the Sand Piper Lane location for a brief overview and instructions on planting the trees.
