WILMINGTON, NC (WECT)—The Wilmington Hammerheads could be close to a partnership with a Major League Soccer franchise.
Duane Rollins of Canadian Soccer News is reporting that affiliation would be with Toronto FC. The deal would allow up to four Toronto FC players to go on loan to Wilmington for the duration of the 2014 season. The deal would be for the 2014 season with the opportunity for it to be renewed beyond that.
Hammerheads General Manager Jason Arnold had no comment on the report. But did said that the Hammerheads are also looking to improve their roster.
Currently, five USL PRO clubs have partnerships with MLS teams: Sporting KC (Orlando City), Philadelphia (Harrisburg), D.C. United (Richmond), New England (Rochester), and Houston (Pittsburgh).
