Officers respond to shots fired near Wooster St. in Wilmington

Officers are investigating a report of gunshots fired in the city of Wilmington Sunday evening. Officers are investigating a report of gunshots fired in the city of Wilmington Sunday evening.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers are investigating a report of gunshots fired in the city of Wilmington Sunday evening.

At the time of this report, we know officers responded to South Eighth Street between Castle and Queen Streets.

Dispatchers at the New Hanover County 911 Center said the initial call of shots fired came from the corner of Wooster and South Ninth Streets.

According to a man named Mike, who did not want to give his last name, the shooting incident happened between two separate groups of men on Eighth Street.

Mike said he was driving near the intersection of Eighth and Wooster Streets when he spotted a man from one group pull out a pistol.  

He said he heard shots fired and one of them hit his car, so he sped down the street and dialed 911.  Mike said he was uninjured in the incident.

No other details have been released at this time.
