SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT)- Family and friends of Keith Vidal gathered at the Brunswick Funeral Services home to pay their last respects to the teenager Friday night.
Vidal was shot and killed by a police officer last Sunday. An investigation into the incident has been opened up by the State Bureau of Investigation.
The case has already received national media attention, but Friday night family members said they didn't want to discuss the investigation.
Anthony Owens, a friend of Vidal, said he still couldn't believe the friend he had known for years was gone.
"This is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do," Owens explained. "He's dead. He's in there cold. There's nothing we can do to change it."
He said Vidal was a genuine friend that won't be forgotten.
"Keith was a little brother to everybody that knew him. Keith was excellent. Keith was there for you when you needed him."
Owens will be one of many people in attendance at Vidal's funeral tomorrow.
"He's going in the ground tomorrow folks. He ain't coming back," said Owens. "There's no justice for this. Nothing you could do could justify this."
Vidal's funeral will be held Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport.
