School bus crash injures 21 elementary students

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WECT/WXII) – 21 students were transported to area hospitals following an accident between a school bus and a white sedan.

According to a report by NBC affiliate WXII, the accident happened around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. The report shows that 49 students were on the bus during the time of the accident. 21 of the 49 students were taken to the Brenner Children's Hospital by a Forsyth County EMS bus with non-life threatening injuries.

As of Wednesday afternoon all the students have been released from the hospital.

Officials with the Winston-Salem Police Department said the driver of the white sedan failed to stop at a stop sign. The car then slammed into the side of the bus.

The school district was operating on a two-hour delay Wednesday morning die to the cold temperatures.
