Town v. Fire & Rescue

Monday town officials in Lake Waccamaw filed a lawsuit against the Lake Waccamaw Fire & Rescue Auxiliary Department. Monday town officials in Lake Waccamaw filed a lawsuit against the Lake Waccamaw Fire & Rescue Auxiliary Department.

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WECT) – The fight between the Town of Lake Waccamaw and the Lake Waccamaw Fire & Rescue Auxiliary Department is heating up now that a lawsuit has been filed.

The lawsuit is to settle a dispute over who owns certain pieces of equipment.

Town officials in Lake Waccamaw filed a lawsuit Monday.

Some of the volunteer Fire & Rescue members say they own equipment because they raised money to purchase it. On the other hand, some town officials are saying the money was raised by the Auxiliary Fire & Rescue Department by operating as a non-profit under the town of Lake Waccamaw.

Town Manager Darren Currie said the new fire chief is working to recruit new firefighters, and get inventory back up so they can get the fire department recertified.

We will continue to follow this situation and update it with any new details when available.
