WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The City of Wilmington is implementing a new strategic neighborhood traffic initiative.
The initiative is designed to track speeding in Wilmington using stealth radar devices. The city will then target speed enforcement in neighborhoods that need it most.
City traffic engineers warn against speeding in the city's limits.
"The cost of the decreased reaction time compared to the small benefit of saving 5 or 10 seconds on your commute. We have to ask ourselves. Is that really worth it?" said Don Bennett, a city traffic engineer.
Malissa Talbert, a city public information officer, said the operation won't cost the city a lot of money.
"All of this is much less costly than physical improvements such as traffic circles," said Talbert. "We are trying to use available technology and limited resources we have since we don't have funding to pay for many physical improvements."
