Ashley High School officials decided to go ahead with tonight's homecoming game, even after the death of belolved teacher Karen Erdman. However, events such as the football breakfast and pep rally were postponed until next week. Exams on Thursday and Friday were also postponed.
Erdman died Thursday from injuries suffered in a three-car accident in Wilmington on Tuesday. She was loved and well-respected by students and staff. Principal Sherry Broom says Erdman's death has made a major impact at the school.
"Any time you lose a teacher it has a tremendous effect whether you knew her or not," says Broom.
Broom says it was important to go ahead with the games, while providing the students a space for grieving.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at the school.
