JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

With the cold temperatures, you may be planning to fire up the space heater or the fireplace, so here are some tips to help keep you and your family safe.

WINTER PREPARDNESS SAFETY TIPS (FOR HEATING YOUR HOME)

  • Be sure your smoke alarms are on and working.
  • Keep clothes, drapes and other flammables away from all heating sources.
  • Never use space heaters while you sleep, when you are out of your home, or where children may be without adult supervision.
  • Never burn paper or trash in a fireplace or wood burning stove.

We also have a tip to protect your outside faucets.

A WLBT viewer shared a picture with us of a durable faucet cover.

We were told the covers could be purchased very inexpensively at any home improvement store, such as Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.

The covers are designed to help protect faucets from freezing during below freezing temperatures.
