BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Members of the Coast Guard are working to rescue five people Friday afternoon who were on a disabled sailboat about 30 miles southeast of Bald Head Island.
The Coast Guard was contacted Thursday night around 9:15, requesting assistance because the 63-foot sailboat was losing power.
A crew was dispatched to Oak Island to assist and arrived to the sailboat around 5:45 Friday morning.
Because of the rough sea and weather conditions, the first crew was only able to tow the sailboat at a speed of two knots. A second crew arrived around 8 a.m. to take over the tow.
No other details have been released at this time.
