Trio of Wilmington officers to be honored at city council meeting

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Three Wilmington Police Officers will each receive the Life Saving Award at the next city council meeting on Tuesday, January 7.

Officers Samuel Thompson and Paul McDermott will be honored for saving the life of a motorist this past summer. Both officers removed the man from his vehicle and performed CPR until EMS arrived on scene. The man made a full recovery.

Officer Vincent Vaccaro will be honored for helping save the life of a woman he found unresponsive on Tulane Drive. Officer Vaccaro performed CPR until fire department personnel could arrive.

"We are proud of the heroic deeds performed by all three of these officers", says Ralph Evangelous, Wilmington Police Chief. "We salute them and their families for their level of excellence and commitment as they serve and protect our community."

Mayor Bill Saffo and Ralph Evangelous will present the officers with the awards.
