Sober rides available for free this New Year's Eve

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Davidson County Sheriff's Office is once again offering free rides home for revelers this New Year's Eve.

Sheriff's office volunteers will be stationed outside popular party sites at 2nd Avenue and Church Street downtown, along with Five Points in east Nashville and the roundabout on Demonbreun Street.

To get a ride home, all you have to do is go up to their black and white tent at those locations between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. and tell them where you live.

As long as it's within the county lines, they'll drive you home, no questions asked.

"We will take as many people as we can take home, but before you go out, make sure that you have a backup plan of some sort. We'll give you a free ride home, no questions asked, but if you can't use our service, or are in an area where our service isn't offered, make sure you have a designated driver or someone you can call. Or you can call a cab or use another kind of service," said department spokeswoman Melinda McDowell.

If you live outside Davidson County, you can still take advantage of AAA's holiday safe ride program called Tow to Go. They'll give you and your car a lift within a 10-mile radius.

To take part, just call 855-286-9246.
