WILMINGTON, NC (WECT)- One family learned the true meaning of ‘season of giving' this year.

Lara Girdler and her husband were running tight on cash this year after making repairs to their home.  They have been trying to repair their HVAC unit, and the bills have been adding up.

Girdler said she was afraid that she and her husband would have no presents for their children this year.

Luckily, the family received donations from the Brigade Boys and Girls club in Wilmington through the organizations Angel Tree program.  Girdler said that her children woke up to a number of presents under the family tree, thanks to an anonymous donor from the charity.

"It's the season of giving and it's extra special, especially when you have kids and money's tight and as a parent you feel bad when you can't get your kids what they really, really want," said Girdler.

Lara Girdler's 9-year-old daughter, Ashley, said she's very grateful for the gifts.

"I just want to say thank you to whomever got those presents and I hope you have a happy New Years," said Ashley Gilder.
