BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Leland Police Department charged a woman who led them on a chase Thursday night.

Police were called around 10:00 p.m. to respond to reports of larceny from Walmart.

When officers arrived on scene, Joyce Norris got in her truck to run away and hit an officer's cruiser in the process.

According to police, officers followed Norris on a chase toward the Waterford neighborhood, where she hit an officer's vehicle head on. That officer was taken to the hospital, but is okay.

Police said the chase continued toward a field near the Harris Teeter and Goodwill. That's when Norris got out of her truck and started to run.

Officers were able to catch up to Norris and took her into custody Thursday night.

Norris, who had an outstanding warrant, was charged with:

  • 2 counts assault with a deadly weapon on LEO
  • felony fleeing to allude
  • DWI
  • 3 counts injury to personal property
  • providing false information to LEO
  • aggressive driving
  • misdemeanor larceny
  • open container
