WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Before Santa left on his annual overnight adventure of gift giving, the man in red cruised through downtown Wilmington on a trolley.
The typical horses associated with the historic tours are decked out with sleigh bells and reindeer antlers. With an elf by his side, old Saint Nick guides the trolley on a loop around part of historic Wilmington.
Riders are encouraged to be more vocal than most tours, because Santa can't sing all the Christmas carols by himself. Dozens of families lined up at Market and Water Streets with Christmas morning just hours away.
Annette Godfrey said she enjoys the year-round tours, but the Christmas ones make for a fun family tradition.
"It's about family and tradition and doing something nice together," she said. "These guys are great."
The owner of the tours said he lets Santa take the reins every year at this time, but he makes sure not to keep him too long to distract from his yearly responsibility.
