I got an email from a man named Jimmy Corbett last week. He thinks it's high time Wilmington had a Bass Pro Shop or a Sportsman's Warehouse. And he's convinced the community would support it.
I told him what I'll tell you. I'm sure these companies do a lot of research and are pretty calculated in making such a large investment. So if they think it would make a profit, they'd be here.
But Jimmy got me thinking. There are a lot of other things this area could use.
I polled the newsroom. Some want a Bob Evans or a Friendly's restaurant. Others want a 7-11. How about a Sheetz? Do we have room for another grocery chain – maybe a Publix?
I've joked that I'd even settle for a Wendy's on my side of town so I don't have to travel far for a small chili.
But this might not all be wishful thinking here on Jimmy's part. There was a time people here pined for a Whole Foods AND a Trader Joes. Now we have them both and they appear to be thriving! Public sentiment won out.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. Let's hear from you! What do you think would be a sure success if it staked a claim in the Port City? Let me know by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
