UNLV takes down Mississippi State in Las Vegas Classic

LAS VEGAS (RNN) - UNLV dominated 42-24 in the first half and never looked back, defeating Mississippi State 82 -66 in the Las Vegas Classic on Monday.

The Bulldogs (9-3) outscored the Rebels (8-4) in field goals, but UNLV held a commanding lead in free throws and 3-pointers, making 19 of 24 free throws and 11 of 26 3-pointers. Mississippi State made nine of 12 free throws and only one of 11 3-pointers.

Craig Sword led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Colin Borchert came in second with 12 points.

Mississippi State won its first game in the tournament against South Florida on Sunday. The Bulldogs will get some time to rest before hosting Maryland Eastern Shore for their final nonconference game on Jan. 2.
