NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Less than 36 hours before millions will be unwrapping presents on Christmas morning, hundreds of shoppers are still looking for last minute gifts Monday night in Wilmington.
Some folks said they intentionally wait until the last minute in hopes of avoiding the crowds throughout the rest of the month. Walking through a busy Mayfaire, Sam McKenzie said he holds out for sales, and it works great for shoppers without a wish list in mind.
"At first I thought we'd have to park across the street," he said. "You get pretty good deals, you just have to be ready to scramble."
Kaylee Clark said a particular present is what kept her from shopping sooner.
"I'm just doing some last minute Christmas shopping for my mom, because it took her forever to tell me what she wanted," joked Clark.
Kevin Funez said he's to blame for his last minute retail adventure. He said he didn't have any time to shop before Monday night.
He said he'll make time next year, and Funez suggested everyone else do the same.
"You'll run out of things to look for and you don't want to do that," he said.
