WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) – Investigators in Columbus County are searching for a thief who broke into a county building and stole government owed electronics, said David Nobles of the Columbus County Sheriff's Office.

The items were taken late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning from a building on Government Complex Road, north of Whiteville. The facility houses the Cooperative Extension and Soil and Water Conservation offices.

Nobles was unable to advise how many computers were stolen.

Edward Davis, director of Columbus County Soil and Water Conservation, said the computers were password protected. He thinks the suspects entered through a window, although no glass was broken.

Davis said the locks in the building were changed following the incident.
