WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Would you believe the City of Wilmington is able to power a 6,100 square-foot facility for $944 a year?

The "green" street sweeper building at 17th and Marstellar Streets is doing just that.

The facility was opened in 2009 after renovations to an old, abandoned city garage. Now, the property houses street sweepers used for downtown cleaning.

According to the City of Wilmington, the electric bill was less than $80 per month on average for the past year. Energy costs for a non-green building of the same size are estimated to be $10,000-$12,000 a year.
