OAK ISLAND, NC (WECT) – A home on Caswell Beach Road in Oak Island was destroyed Monday morning in a fire. The damage was so extensive, fire investigators say they were unable to determine a cause.

According to Fire Marshal Scott Garner, crews from Oak Island, Yaupon Beach and Southport all responded to the call just after 5 a.m.

The assistant fire chief of the Oak Island Fire Department said callers reported flames were coming through the roof of the home.

A neighboring house was also partially involved, but firefighters were able to save the home with only minor cosmetic damage.

No one was hurt in the fire, but there were significant financial losses. The value of the destroyed structure was $200,000 according to tax records.

Fire investigators say they have contacted the home owners, who have their primary residence in Greensboro. The Oak Island home was a vacation property and was vacant when the fire started. Insurance investigators will now take over the case.
