First Alert Weather: Another record high for Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Unseasonably warm temperatures will prevail through Monday. Sunday's high hit 80 at ILM tying the old record of 80 set in 1998. A storm system will bring a good chance for showers and thunderstorms Monday. Colder weather will arrive just in time for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
 
MONDAY: A potent storm system with a trailing cold front could bring a lot of showers and possibly some thunderstorms to the area prior to Christmas. There could be a small risk of a strong thunderstorms with gusty winds. Ahead of the front highs will reach the mid 70's.  Monday night lows fall back into the 40's behind the cold front. 

CHRISTMAS EVE AND CHRISTMAS DAY: A few lingering showers are possible very early Tuesday morning with clearing during the afternoon. Cold high pressure building from the west will drop afternoon highs into the low 50's Tuesday. Christmas Day will be sunny and chilly with highs in the upper 40's.  Lows Tuesday and Wednesday night will be in the upper 20's and low 30's. Cold as it should be for Santa!
 
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: Mostly to partly sunny and cool with highs in the low and mid 50's.  Expect chilly nighttime lows in the mid 30's. A trough of low pressure off the coast of the Carolinas could spark a few spotty (10%) showers.
