NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - It may not be the $636 million jackpot, but one lucky Mega Millions winner bought a $1 million winning ticket from a North Myrtle Beach grocery store.
The ticket worth $1 million was sold at the Bi-Lo at 720 Main St. in North Myrtle Beach, and matched all five white balls drawn in Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing, according to lottery officials. Had the Megaball, lucky number 7, matched, the winner would have gotten a share of the second-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.
The $636 million jackpot was shared between a winner in California and a winner in Georgia.
The odds of winning are one in 18,492,204 million, and a lucky someone cashed in at Bi-Lo, and beat those odds.
The ticket holder could also have won $4 million if they had purchased the Megaplier for $1, officials stated.
Bi-Lo shoppers cashed in on the conversation, "It's hard to imagine winning something like that...you know maybe a few bucks but not a million dollars- and you know the big money, I can't imagine that," says William Goldsmith.
The winner may be in shock too because the cash has not been claimed. They have 180 days total to pick up the prize.
Bi-Lo store director Cheri Wood says she's excited and are hoping the person comes forth soon so they can celebrate the win. "We're just hoping its one of those that always come in and buy the ticket and they say 'I'm gonna remember you when I win this,' that's what we're hoping for," she says.
Check your tickets! The winning numbers are: 8, 14, 17, 20, and 39 Megaball: 7
