SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT/WESH) – A woman from Southport was killed in a crash in Florida Tuesday.
According to reports, Highway Patrol officers said 61-year-old Mary Bullington crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of I-4 between Daytona Beach and Deland.
WESH, the NBC affiliate in Florida, is reporting Bullington's SUV was wedged beneath the semi.
According to the media outlet, someone driving behind Bullington called 911 moments before the crash to report that she was "driving erratically, breaklessly and recklessly."
WESH is reporting the driver of the truck told troopers he had stopped to stretch his legs and had just gotten back into the cab when the accident happened.
Troopers told the media outlet the truck driver didn't cause the crash, but was in violation because he did not have on his hazards.
There were two small dogs in the vehicle with Bullington at the time of wreck. According to reports, they were rescued by animal control and are being cared for.
