CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A woman is accused of taking thousands of dollars from a charity organization.
Maranda Damico, of Stedman, is charged with embezzlement.
Authorities say she stole $10,839 from the Swamp Boys and Fishing to Fight Cancer Foundation between April 2012 and October 2013 when Damico was treasurer and in charge of bookkeeping.
The say she was taking cash that was collected during a fundraiser that brought in more than $7,000. Detectives say she used other donations for personal loans and other expenses without the consent of the foundation.
Damico was placed in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond.
