SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – Some Southport officials are not happy with a recent pay change. The C.E.O. of an electric company is getting a sizeable pay raise and some town leaders are concerned that it could affect their bills.
Southport gets its power from City Electric. That agency's board of directors recently approved a $50,000 raise for it's C.E.O.
At its meeting on Thursday night, the Southport Board of Aldermen voted 4-2 to draft a resolution opposing that large of a raise.
Alderman Buddy Barnes told us over the phone that the town already pays extremely high electric bills and he's concerned that they'll go even higher now.
The resolution is scheduled to be officially drafted and submitted in the next few weeks.
