"The Dialogues of Strange Bedfellows" looks at moments between couples.
"The Dialogues of Strange Bedfellows" runs through December 15.
"The Dialogues of Strange Bedfellows" is being performed at the Browncoat Pub & Theatre.
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A new show running in downtown Wilmington is striking up some interesting conversations.
It's called The Dialogues of Strange Bedfellows, and it's a collection of original one-act plays.
The Browncoat Theater sent a call-out for locally written material and chose a set of works that fit a common theme. They all look into moments with couples, including spouses, siblings and friends.
In addition, all the actors chose a monologue or wrote one of their own to work into the show.
"They could have their own ideas and their own description of strange bedfellows in the production," said director Liz Bernardo. "And that kind of is the glue that holds all the one-acts together."
The show also fits the mission of Browncoat, which is to showcase local, original talent.
"I really like the fact that it's a good opportunity for people to put out a small piece of their work, so that it's kind of a testing the waters thing for them," said Bernardo. "It's less intimidating, in my mind, to do a short piece and have it performed for you. I mean, just watch your words come to life."
Everyone involved with the production, from writer to actor, hopes it resonates with the people who come to see it.
"I hope audiences leave with a smile" said Bernardo. "I hope they enjoyed themselves, but in addition I hope they get the idea of community and companionship that we're trying to bring across in every single play and every single monologue."
